May 9th

Today I introduced 'roses and thorns' at lunch time. A rose is something good that happened, and a thorn is something that is not so good. (I was just trying to focus the conversation from seven kids having ten conversations at once).

My rose today: Opal manifested a drum circle at the beginning of circle, and it's always so nice when everyone gets inspired and joins in. In no time everyone had a drum (or three), with minimal squabbling. We drummed together, following Opal as the leader as she changed the volume and tempo. I had to join in with the saxophone, and then I put on some African drumming (I do love my Alexa!) for us to play with, and soon everyone was dancing.

As for thorns...well, the transition from lunch to busing dishes to bathroom to story to so quiet alone time on mats is always a bit chaotic. I shall continue to dream of a better way...
